Stump-Sprout Design Build

Stump-Sprout Design Build specializes in pieces crafted from locally harvested wood species and reclaimed material, with an emphasis on thoughtful design, lasting structure and creative flair.

What began as an interest 10 years ago in wooden boatbuilding for owner Gillian Davis turned into a passion for woodworking and sharing that interest with others. In addition to building wooden boats, furniture and cabinetry, doing full home remodels and most recently building her own tiny house, Gillian spent a number of years working in education. She taught boatbuilding to middle school students at Bath Maritime Museum, woodworking at Helensview Alternative Public High School in Oregon, and trades-related skills to women through two Oregon-based non-profits, Oregon Tradeswomen and The ReBuilding Center.

Finally back in her home state of Maine after a year at Yestermorrow Design/Build School in Vermont, Gillian is doing what she loves through Stump-Sprout Design Build, and looking forward to not only growing her business, but also incorporating community building programs for underserved groups throughout greater Portland.

Gillian would enjoy discussing your project ideas. She works with projects of varying size, scope and budget and brings you into the design-build process leading to satisfied results. Whether it’s a table built from reclaimed material, a whimsical children’s bookshelf, a backyard artist’s studio, or a tiny home on wheels (that’s right!), Gillian would love to discuss your ideas and begin the design process.
